GIGGIN

I LOVE HYPHY!

Before tonight, I had gotten a little bored with the genre. Stopped listening in favor of other hip-hop and assorted electronica. And Pavement too. Pavement RULES.

But anyway, tonight I went to see Andre Nickatina in concert with Malia and her friend from Hawaii. It revived my interest in the genre and ended up being the BEST NIGHT EVER.

After a few shitty to decent openers, they finally announced Nickatina was coming out. The set started with a short DJ set of hyphy slaps (slaps means rap songs to non-Bay Areans). It was awesome, and got me excited because it was the first time I had heard hyphy from proper speakers since my Senior Ball. Yeah, that's right, people actually gigged and pulled thizz faces at my school prom. This shit is REAL.

+ = Northgate Prom

Anyway, Nickatina finally came out and everyone lost their shit. It was an awesome show. Fat beats, Oakland A's hats everywhere, repping the Bay and LA, chants of "Mac Dre" and "Get Money," B-Luv pulling thizz faces and throwing up the "T," high-fiving Nickatina from the crowd, random girls dancing/making out with me (lewlz), and Nickatina telling the crowd to "throw up our playboys", which ended up being exactly the same as the fight on sign. USC!

So it basically was amazing. Then we proceeded to walk outside the club to wait for our cab, and I MET MISTAH F.A.B.!

For almost all of you, this will mean nothing. Mistah F.A.B. is a hyphy rapper from Oakland who has written such gems as, "Yellow Bus" and "Ghost Ride It". Definitely one of my favorite rappers, so you can imagine how stoked I was to shake his hand and talk to him. Not many people outside the club recognized him (ignorant LA folk!) but a group of other guys and I got to meet him. It was sick as hell. Then as we got into a taxi, there was a fight between drunk guys over another taxi. Then our cab driver proceeded to ask us, "You guys like music?" and blasted 2Pac.

If I had to sum up my night in one word, it would be this one:

PEAK.
